February News2011Mrs. Everett’s Kindergarten In the ClassroomBoy January went by too fast!  Hope you all enjoyed all of that snow!  In January we learned about winter weather and animals in winter.  We read different versions of The Mitten and created a Venn diagram.  We talked about migration, hibernation and adaptation.  In math we have been reviewing numbers 1-20, creating patterns and graphing.  All of the students have been working hard and they are doing a great job! February will be a fun month.  Our units of study will be underground animals, Valentine’s Day, dental health, healthy me and the five sense.  We will continue working with numbers 1-20 and begin to work on numbers 21-30.  We will also work on sorting and classifying objects using different rules.   Of course there is much more going on in the classroom but those are few of the highlights.  J   BirthdaysJanuary 5th – EvaJanuary 30th – MarissaFebruary 23rd – Trammell  Good Citizenship BreakfastWOES is beginning a new good citizenship program!  Every month a student from every class, in every grade will be selected for demonstrating the monthly character trait.  The students will be honored at a good citizenship breakfast at the end of each month.  Their parent(s) will be invited to attend the breakfast with their child.    The good citizens from our classroom for the months of December and January are Marissa Hannon and Tindra Tramontano CONGRATULATIONS!! The character traits for the remainder of the year are:February – Good JudgmentMarch – Integrity (career/future awareness)April – PerseveranceMay - Courage Family HomeworkPlease let me know if you have any questions about the February family homework.  Each student is to create their valentine card mailbox.  Boxes and valentines are due February 10th.  Valentine’s Day PartyWe will have a small celebration on Monday, February 14th.  The students will exchange valentines and have a make your own sundae snack.  Please have your child bring in a valentine for each student in our classroom.  (we do not exchange valentines with other classrooms….sorry just gets a little too crazy!)  We are asking that each child brings in their favorite sundae topping.  (caramel, hot fudge, whipped cream, crushed cookies, mini chocolate chips, M&Ms, sprinkles, gummies etc.)  I will provide the ice cream!  J  Please let me know if you have any questions. ** Remember, all valentine boxes and valentines should be sent to school on Thursday, February 10th.  23 children who cannot read names on cards or mailboxes takes forever….so we spread it out over a few days.  **      Word/Letter RingsIf you have not done so already, please send back your word rings.  We are updating and adding to them.  All word rings already sent in have been redone and they will be sent home with sight words. We are sending home blank cards to write sight words on.  You should receive a list of 25 sight words.  This may be your child’s second list….it is fine….we want to try to get to 100!  WOES yearbooks are now on sale.  You may buy them at the early bird special price of $15.00!!!  Hurry, this price will only last until February 15th and then the price will go to $18.  Yearbooks are only on sale for a short time and will only be pre-sold so get them now.  Once they come in (usually in May) they only have a few extras and they go fast and sell out quickly.  So get them EARLY!!  You may send in cash or check made out to WOES.   Baggie BooksBaggie books will be sent home on Mondays and Wednesday.  Please read the book with your child for two nights.  Write the title of the book on the reading log.  Send the book back on Wednesday and Friday.  We will also read the book with your child and sign the log.  If your child does not bring back the book they cannot receive another baggie book.  In short:Monday/Wednesday – books sent home to read for 2 days.Wednesday/Friday – send books back to schoolRecord book/sign log          Dates to Remember:  FEBRUARY *  Don’t forget to send in your child’s WINTER extra change of clothes.  You never know when a whole carton of milk will end up their lap at lunch!   1st – Yearbooks are on sale for $15.  (will be sold for this price until Feb. 15th)1st – Report cards sent home.  Please sign brown envelope and return.  You keep everything inside of the envelope.4th – Wear red4th – Scholastic book orders due9th – 100th day of school (bring in 100 of something/ pennies, beans, cereal etc.) 10th – send in valentine boxes and valentines14th – Happy Valentine’s Day!  Bring in your favorite sundae topping for our make your own sundae party.
